Composting
Composting is another important process that turns two major sources of trash - food and paper waste - into treasure. This organic material is found in a range of industries, and can be composted to create nutrient-rich products used in organic farming, sod farming, landscaping and gardening.
Compostable materials include:
- Industrial food manufacturing residues
- Yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, brush from landscaping companies or park districts)
- Industrial paper manufacturing residues
- Wood waste (supplied by construction companies)
- All types of fruit and vegetables (whole and scraps)
- Industrial filter cakes, belt filter press sludge cake and dissolved air flotation (DAF) streams
- Coffee and tea grounds/bags
- Shredded newspaper
- Wood ash
- Straw
- Sawdust and wood chips
- Forest wood and residues
- Agriculture residuals
